By the time you read this, I will be on the first leg of my Great Adventure. This evening, Lord willing, I will be picked up by a good friend at the Austin airport, who will accompany me tomorrow to the gardens of three Austin garden bloggers: Pam, MS Stevens, and Annie.

Friday I’ll be back at the airport, on my way to Oklahoma City for the Garden Writers Association annual symposium. On Sunday morning I’ll make my contribution to the Garden Blog panel discussion. After that I’ll be able to relax and enjoy the garden tours, meals, and receptions, many of which are sponsored by various horticulturally-related companies.

Thanks to Lynette Petersen and Lisa Teet of Swanson Russell Associates, ad agency for Corona, for getting permission from Corona to use the image here and generally making it possible. I really like it, don’t you?

About

Kathy Purdy discovered the joys of writing in fourth grade, when she started corresponding with a former classmate. She's been writing letters ever since, first on looseleaf, then electronically, and now as weblog entries. That makes you, the blog reader, her pen pal. Her first independent (though frustrating) attempts at gardening were made in high school, though the gardening bug didn't bite hard until her mid-thirties, when she found herself mistress of a rural home on 15 acres. • USDA Hardiness Zone:4 • AHS Heat Zone: 3 • Location: rural; Southern Tier of NY • Geographic type: foothills of Appalachian Mountains • Soil Type: acid clay • Experience level: intermediate • Particular interests: colchicums, narcissus, cottage gardening, NY native plants, gardening with/for children

That is the beauty of reading seed catalogues while the next snowstorm approaches. We seed in an imaginary spring, weed in an imaginary summer, harvest in an imaginary fall.

Sounds wonderful, Kathy. What a great get-away, and so appropriate for you.

And I’ll have to go back through my blog and see if I have something worth sending to Sue for the Retro Carnival.

- Hmmm. Maybe I’ll go through my older net entities and find something to post that folks who read my Garden Djinn haven’t seen yet!

Now, to find some time.

It was wonderful to meet you and Cynthia, Kathy – I hope the Sunday panel went well and that you’re now enjoying something fun like a garden tour.

Hi – this is an invitation to join the Garden Bloggers Retro carnival. I don’t know if you’ve ever come across the concept of a Blog carnival – if not I’ve explained it in detail on my site today (Oct 1). But basically the idea is to revive an old post which you think is worth rereading, or which you think new readers might enjoy. Send me the link to the post, and in November I’ll publish a series of posts describing and linking to all the posts people have nominated.
I hope you’ll join in and we have a fun carnival!

How fun–hope you have a wonderful, safe, and educational trip, Kathy!

By the way, that is a very cool graphic. Someone put a lot of time and effort into that work, and it definitely paid off.

What a great time I had meeting you in the flesh. I am so glad that we had the opportunity to get together after all these years knowing each other through our writing.

The garden writers graphic is really neat. I’m looking forward to hearing about the symposium. If any of the photos turned out, I’ll email them to you next week.

My first two attempts to comment disappeared into ether. I’ll try again.

Wish I could be there with you.

What a concentration of garden blogging power that is going to be in Austin! I wish I could be there to witness it. Unfortunately too many miles and too many obligations. You and MSS were my first inspirations.

At first I thought that was Corona beer that was sponsoring you.
