Low tonight=15F? !! Probably should pile leaves on those foxgloves greening up, if the wind ever dies down.
In the end, this may be the most important thing about frost: Frost slows us down. In spring, it tempers our eagerness. In fall, it brings closure and rest. In our gotta-go world–where every nanosecond seems to count–slowness can be a great gift. So rather than see Jack Frost as an adversary, you could choose to greet him as a friend.

I was disappointed — er — relieved. It was 25 when I got up Monday. Not nearly so bad as I was expecting.

Happy Birthday, Kathy! I remember celebrating it last year with lots of our mutual blogging friends. Hope it’s been great.
Thank you, all, for the birthday greetings!
My wireless max-min thermometer says it got down to 16F just before dawn this morning. Plants seem to have suffered more from chicken scratching than the cold. Nothing was really that far along, though the heucheras that came emerged from snowmelt unscathed are looking a bit more tattered lately. They’re predicting lows in the upper 20s tonight.
Ouch ~ that is cold. I hope it didn’t reach -17F last night.
Happy Birthday to you! I hope you are celebrating with a delicious cake.
