Cold Climate Gardening

Providing the gardening information you need to succeed in USDA Hardiness Zones 4 & colder

Here's What You'll Find Inside:

Links and Resources

"Man shall not live by Internet alone." That's my motto, and that's why you'll find other resources--books, magazines, whatever--in addition to the ubiquitous collection of links. Not that I have anything against links. The more, the merrier, I say, and I've made a substantial collection of gardening bookmarks available to you here.

Pride of place goes to links and resources concerning cold climate gardening. Not surprisingly, it's the largest section. But I've also included links and resources to other topics dear to my heart. I want to keep tabs on nurseries in upstate NY that are growing their own plants as well as other resources in "my neck of the woods," so to speak. And around the house, cottage gardening is my modus operandi, so I have a selection of links and resources for that, too. And I'm a big fan of garden weblogs, or journals, so I've included a directory of them to enable you to find them more easily.

Name That Plant!

Have you ever had to choose between several attractive cultivars of one plant, and wished you knew which one was the hardiest? Me, too. That's why I've set up this table. Every time I find out about the hardiest cultivar or species of a plant, I'll put the information here. I expect lots of help from the reading public here! You don't have to have grown it yourself if you can cite your source of information.

Garden Blogs

A blog (short for web log) is a kind of online journal. There are lots of different kinds of blogs on the internet, and garden blogs are just a small fraction of the blogs out there. To me, they are the equivalent of a virtual garden club, only instead of members from your local area, you get to compare notes with gardeners from all over the United States, and, if you know the language, even other parts of the world. I love this aspect of the internet, and I want to do everything I can to encourage it. That's why you'll find links to every garden-related weblog I could find here for your own discovery and enjoyment, along with some other garden-related feeds.

The Cold Climate Gardening Journal

This is the companion blog to the rest of this website. All the contributors are gardeners from cold climates in various parts of this country. By sharing our own joys and struggles, we hope to give you encouragement as you garden in your own unique horticultural environment. Please feel free to add your two cents' worth in the comments.
