Garden Blog Directory

A blog (short for web log) is a kind of online journal. There are lots of different kinds of blogs on the internet, and garden blogs are just a small fraction of the blogs out there. To me, they are the equivalent of a virtual garden club, only instead of members from your local area, you get to compare notes with gardeners from all over the United States, and, if you know the language, even other parts of the world.

When I first started blogging in 2002, it was difficult to find other gardening blogs. There were less than a dozen that I knew about, so when I found a new one it was an event worthy of a blog post. This directory evolved out of my desire to keep track of them and to make it easier for others to find them.

When I realized I couldn’t discover all the new garden blogs on my own, I created a submission form for bloggers to request to be listed. I quickly got swamped with entries. At one point I hired someone to help me keep up. I finally wised up.

As of March 1, 2014, this directory will have a much narrower focus. Going forward I will only be accepting entries for cold climate gardening blogs and upstate NY blogs. If you don’t fit into either of these categories, don’t bother to request a listing. Anyone who requested a listing before March 1, 2014 will still be listed provided they meet the other requirement of original content. No scrapers!

However, only cold climate gardening blogs will be listed in the sidebar, chosen randomly from all that I have.
