I think the recession has spurred an interest in gardening, and blogging has become more of a topic in mainstream media. Personally, I have kept a journal and a sketch book since I was in highschool when I realized what a blog was I found it just to be an extension of that. It is interesting when people read it and comment, but I do it just for me. The reason mine is partly about gardening is because that has been what I been working on this year. I will say that the few people I have had contact with through the blog have been very nice and helpful.

This is my first attempt at gardening and blogging. I'm gardening because I finally have free time and we've reclaimed our yard. I'm blogging because I found myself taking lots of photos to show my family and friends what we were doing, creating photo albums on-line with lots of captions, and finally decided that it would be easier to blog. I also found that I couldn't remember what I had planted when, and since I'm a very digital person, my first choice was not to keep a hard copy journal. My most loyal reader is still my mom, but I guess I must have something interesting to say or show because other people -- not related to me -- have started reading my blog regularly.

My first online garden experience was in an MSN community for gardeners. It was great, we learned from each other. Shared ideas and helped with problems.

Then a Yahoo "Square Foot Gardening" group. I have limited space for my garden so I've always been looking for new ways to get the most from my small space. Intensive methods. It's been a wonderful experience.

I decided to create my own blog and join a blog ring of gardeners. The purpose was the same desire to learn and share, but also have my gardens documented for future references.

I still frequent the Sq.FT. Gard. group.

I am in the process of creating my blog, which will be about gardening the environment, and possibly small town politics. These are areas in which I'm writing books and I'm hoping to create a following on my blog as part of my "platform."
