"Cottage Gardening. What does your mind picture when you hear those words? A lush, pefumed, and productive plot near the doors of your home? A tiny, fragrant, garden surrounding your patio? Or a few large pots of herbs and fragrant flowers on an apartment balcony? Any of these plantings can have the cottage spirit, and anyone who tends them can be a cottage gardener. Come join us and see if the cottage style garden speaks to you. We will enjoy your thoughts, and we will enjoy sharing our thoughts and plans for our own gardens with you." Yahoo groups are a cross between a discussion forum, a mailing list, and a website. You need to register with Yahoo to take full advantage of the site, such as the links page and the photos page, though you can sign up for the mailing list part without registering with Yahoo.
Almost anything you do in the garden, for example weeding, is an effort to create some sort of order out of nature's tendency to run wild. There has to be a certain degree of domestication in a garden. The danger is that you can so tame a garden that it becomes a thing. It becomes landscaping.

I garden in snow covered eastern North Dakota–shrub roses, daylilies and lilies are my favorites. My garden is “sleeping” under a cover of chopped leaves and snow. Anxious for SPRING!!
