[Colchicums] are sort of like the nuts in my cookies... I don't think about them a lot, but I'd certainly miss them if they weren't there.

I agree with you fran, lady bugs are colorful and beautiful to look at, while stink bugs are nasty to look at and very irritating to touch because of their scent.

I had been following the comments for over a year now about the stink bugs and I lost my link to this site. I was wondering if we were still able to post comments about the stink bugs and where the previous postings had gone. It was good to have people who understood what it means to be inundated by these insects and know how it effects how we live.

I have the misfortune to have been ” invaded ” by these nasty bugs . They came in the house some time in late summer and I managed to suck up a few hundred of them with the vac ( which became a smelly job ) but I still have the darn things in the house , seems like the more we catch the more we find ..They appear to enjoy hiding behind pictures on the wall and at the top of curtains . Lately we have been catching them in jars and containers and then incinerate them when we can . The ” stink ” they produce is sometimes so strong you can taste it , which is very nasty . I have tried all kinds of ” do it yourself ” remedies and have also been told by pest controllers that there is nothing you can do , just bear with it until they move on …. trouble is seems they like my house …. I hate them with a passion .

Shaving Cream kills and contains the stink. Spray Brut deodorant shocks pretty well, until u can find the shaving cream, anyway. RAID WASP and HORNET spray kills, kills, kills. I use it outside on/in cracks. Found them in my stainless steel chimney pipe and rain cap.

Remember, to “tighten” a house suffiently with caulk or spray foam insulation to prevent their entry, the structure must necessarily become a toxic space. IMO. We need fresh oxygen to breathe without a dangerous concentration of carbon dioxide building up. An air to air heat exchanger is a must unless you don’t mind opening your windows in the winter time. IMO

A sub-slab ventilation system to evacuate Radon would be important to have, too, as it may accumulate in such a house. IMO

Stink bugs are harmless. They have an interesting look about them. They don’t bite. I have never detected a foul odor. I love lady bugs and lightning bugs…..good memories of childhood. Now, I add stink bugs to the list, although, they’re new to me. They are not enemies of ours like the dreaded mosquitoes and ticks etc etc

Hi Fran,
Thank goodness for your sweet spirit. Our world needs more wonderful souls just like you!
Speaking of more, I have 27 extra-large garbage bags filled with live SBs. May I have your address, please?

This is a plague just waiting to happen. Remember I said this. We need to do something NOW about these!

I would like to comment to the statement that stink bugs do not bite. This is far from the truth, as I personally have been bitten by a stink bug on Sept. 19, 2010 at my neck and I have been going through horrible pain and burning sensation since. The bite spot immediately turned black & blue and then within a day turned a reddish orange color. If you google BITES BY STINK BUGS you will find numerous people that have been bitten by stink bugs and have the same type of injury that I now have.

I, too, was bit by a stink bug. Outside, in the summer, I saw a bunch of them trying to enter the side of the screen on the second floor. I stood on my porch with my hose and sprayed them hard with water. One of them came straight down and bit my neck. It hurt and stung for awhile. I guess I pissed him off!
I have such a phobia with bugs. All cracks and crevices have been sealed inside and out for they crawl between the width of a nickel-places where you would not expect is where they hide and enter>

Ok…I have been a looker & haven’t posted for a good long while. Stink bugs are appearing on the walls of our patio, but we recently had the house treated with the Demand CS so are finding their little bodies laying around (YEAH, score one for us non-flyers!)

Hubby showed me an articlethat appears in an online Phila newspaper…..it seems as if these bug are starting to make headlines. Here is the link to it
