All you upstate NY gardeners need to know about the Odyssey to Ithaca sponsored by Upstate Gardeners Journal. They are going to visit MacKenzie-Childs, Bakers Acres, The Plantsmen, and Bedlam Gardens. I’ve been to them all except MacKenzie-Childs, and they’re all wonderful.
The Odyssey is departing from both Buffalo and Rochester on June 6. If you are local to either Buffalo or Rochester, this trip will be time and money well spent.

I am very fond of the Spring-flowering colchicums, but unfortunately slugs are also, and those greedy gastropods and I have a race for who can see the flower-buds first. If I win I go out after dark with an acetylene lamp and a hatpin and spear the little army of slugs making for a tea party at the sign of the Colchicum.

I definitely plan on attending this from Buffalo.
Wish I could go, Seattle’s a bit far though… my in-laws have deep Ithaca roots (Cornell profs and students), I hope to go there someday and see the college and local gardens!
