Odyssey Bulbs on Martha Stewart

Odyssey Bulbs has long been a favorite of mine for unusual bulbs (including unusual varieties of colchicum) that you’re not likely to find elsewhere–not even at Brent and Becky’s. I recently learned it was featured on Martha Stewart’s tv show on January 22nd. If, like me, you missed it, you can still view it on marthastewart.com or go straight to Odyssey, where they’ve conveniently profiled those selections. The video clip makes it sound like they can all be planted this spring, but I don’t think that’s the case with the crocus. I am probably shooting myself in the foot telling you about my favorite micro-bulb nursery before I’ve placed my own order, but I think Martha already gave away the secret.

About the Author

Kathy Purdy is a colchicum evangelist, converting unsuspecting gardeners into colchicophiles. She gardens in rural upstate NY, which used to be USDA Hardiness Zone 4 but is now Zone 5. Kathy’s been writing since 4th grade, gardening since high school, and blogging since 2002. Find her on Instagram as kopurdy.

Now, the digging and dividing of perennials, the general autumn cleanup and the planting of spring bulbs are all an act of faith. One carries on before the altar of delayed gratification, until the ground freezes and you can’t do any more other than refill the bird feeder and gaze through the window, waiting for the snow. . . . Meanwhile, it helps to think of yourself as a pear tree or a tulip. You will blossom spectacularly in the spring, but only after the required period of chilling.

Ah, more places to shop! Thanks Kathy for the tip on good bulb sources. There seem to be so many, it’s difficult to sort one from the other.

I hope all is well!
