I think PO might be on to something....gardeners do like to brag about the success they have. I remember reading something about Thomas Jefferson having a race with his neighbor each year, over who would pick their peas first....

Thanks to all of the pioneers for a great series, and thanks Kathy for bringing them all together!

Thank you, Zoey, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
MSS: Your nomination has been accepted and Garden Bits has been added to the list.

I'd like to point out to everyone that once this series gets "pushed off the page" it will still be accessible from the menu.

I'd like to nominate Larvalbug's Garden Bits. Valerie was the first online gardener I discovered here in Austin. She has wonderful writeups of plants local and native. But she's a real whiz on bugs. And takes fantastic photos!

Her site is arranged topically, not sequentially, like a blog. And if you want to comment you have to drop her an email. That's how we met on March 2, 2001...so I know her site has been up since before that. The earliest entry I found on her site is dated May 6, 2000.

Wonderful insights... I particularly like Ilona's hope that we could somehow influence the types of product available through our online community. (A whole flat of heliotrope at a reasonable price would be heaven!)
