Maternal bragging

There’s nothing that makes a gardening mother happier than to see her offspring sport their own green thumbs. In addition to Talitha’s big vegetable garden, Cadie, Collin, Evan, Justin, and Owen all have smaller patches of ground they are tending, and Caleb (age 3) has a container garden. My 21 year old son Rundy has several agricultural projects going. He tends to like to grow practical things, like grapes and apple trees. He also plants some vegetables, the ones he can’t live without, I suppose. But (and here’s where the bragging comes in) he not only grows these things, but he writes about them in a way I think you’ll find enjoyable. And if you do, let him know, and tell him his mother sent you. Update: I decided to make Rundy a contributor and copy his relevant blog entries to this blog. This is getting to be quite the family affair.

In its own way, frost may be one of the most beautiful things to happen in your garden all year . . . Don’t miss it. Like all true beauty, it is fleeting. It will grace your garden for but a short while this morning. . . . For this moment, embrace frost as the beautiful gift that it is.
